I’ve just gotten ahold of the first single from EJ’s new album The Captain and the Kid
called “The Bridge”.
The Bridge
I’ve seen the bridge and the bridge is long
And they built it high and they built it strong
Strong enough to hold the weight of time
Long enough to leave some of us behind
And every one of us has to face that day
Do you cross the bridge or do you fade away
And every one of us that ever came to play
Has to cross the bridge or fade away
Standing on the bridge looking at the waves
Seen so many jump, never seen one saved
On a distant beach your song can die
On a bitter wind, on a cruel tide
And the bridge it shines
Oh cold hard iron
Saying come and risk it all
Or die trying
And every one of us has to face that day
Do you cross the bridge or do you fade away
And every one of us that ever came to play
Has to cross the bridge or fade away
It’s a gorgeous, stately piano ballad, and I think Bernie wrote the lyrics just for me. I want to make big changes in my life, want to move away from Portland and start a new life somewhere, but fear of change holds me here. “Come and risk it all, or die trying”.
This song may be the catalyst for me to go ahead and make those changes. Move to Dallas…aquire some self-discipline…quit smoking. The “Bridge” could obviously be a metaphor for many things. I need to make my plans, stuff my pack and cross it.
Or fade away…

CW…
When and if you’re ready, you’ll make those adjustments. There is always the possibility that you are really happy with where you are but that you just need to find the right changes in other areas that will give you balance overall in your life.
And you started to quit smoking once and had it going for a while. You can do it. Hope back on the wagon.

AHHHH! Quit smoking? Who me? I’m quake at the aftermath I would leave behind in my path of bitter destruction. You know, your right I should.
I just had a friend who after 11 years of HIV found out three months ago he had Lung Cancer. I found out this last monday on my birthday when he came into The Eagle. Made me stop and think I tell you.

And thank you for listing me in your list (if I haven’t thanked you already). I will reciprocate this weekend when my mind isn’t so mush.
