Visitng Dallas, Steven and Mark

October 30, 2006 · 8 Comments

I fly out Monday morning to visit Dallas for a week. Gonna stay with my friend Steven and see my longtime friend and blog-daddy Mark.

Most of you probably read Mark’s blog. I met him the very first time I got online, probably 10 years ago. I had this old, crappy computer with dialup, but I was so excited…I’d discovered the world of the internet and chatrooms. I was on AOL and decided to go into a Dallas, Texas M4M room and talk to some menz. I ended up getting some flak from some jerk in the room for taking up a chat spot…and nebrkid1 came to my defense. That was Mark. We ended up talking for a really long time, and discovered we had a whole lot in common…it was pretty cool. We talked on the phone, exchanged photos and remained friends to this day. Not very much time goes by without a check-in, and now that we have the blogosphere to keep track of each other, it works out well.

We have only met once, in person. He came to Portland several years ago and we had dinner and some drinks…there were serious sparks, but we didn’t go through with doing anything sexual, although the heat and attraction were certainly there. I’m not sure why we didn’t…probably because he is supposed to be with his wonderful current husband. Things worked out like they were supposed to.

I’m really looking forward to seeing my great friend Steven, and seeing Mark again, and meeting his partner! I’ll fill you blogsters in with lots of pics and video when I get back!

Love,
Mark

8- I have tried to learn to like opera, but just cannot manage to do it.

9- I consider myself to be naturally masculine. I look and act pretty “butch”

10- It’s possible I am deluding myself about #9, but I don’t think so.

11- I have appeared in 2 adult films. Only one was ever released. I’m on the cover of the box, and I liked seeing it on the shelves at the video store.

19- I like to gamble.

20- I’m about as far away from being a “neat freak” as you can get. But I do tidy up once things get really cluttered.

21- I love my dog, Jesse, with all my heart. When he passes away, I will be devastated. I conciously cherish every moment with him, so that I won’t have any regrets when he goes. He is 11 years old.

22- I have been single for 6 years.

23- I don’t consider myself to be particulary funny, but I can be sometimes. I like dry, dark humor the best. Don’t know why that is.

24- I like my looks, and really wouldn’t change much about them except to muscle up some and lose the belly.

25- I clearly enjoy discussing myself…Oy! Quite an ego for an over-40, balding, overweight homo with no money.

This was fun…I could go on and on! (insert masculine giggle here) Hope it didn’t bore you too much!

Standing O and The Last Cigarette

October 13, 2006 · 7 Comments

Ok, this is the last you have to hear about TOMMY for awhile. But tonight, the show really rocked, and we got a standing ovation. The rather small opening night audience really had a good time and genuinely loved the show. Several people I know who always seem to hate everything said they’d be reccommending it.

SO ANYWAY…..whoo-hoo! I just hope more people come.

Last Friday I started taking Chantix, a new medication to quit smoking. You take it for a week before your quit day, letting it build in your system. The amount of medication increases during the preparation week, and, tomorrow increases even more.

SO, Friday is quit day. Before I go to bed tonight, I will smoke the last cigarette that I will ever smoke. I’m looking forward to waking up Friday morning, smober. Smober? That’s not a type-o…you get it. SMOBER!

Tech week…aka Hell week…aka Yech week

October 9, 2006 · 5 Comments

Tech week started today for TOMMY. For those who haven’t done theatre before, it’s the week that leads up to opening night, the week you get to deal with costumes, props, lights, sounds…all that tech stuff.

We got to be in the actual theater today, see the set for the first time, sing with the band (also known as zitsprobe - don’t ask, I don’t know!)

TOMMY is being performed on platforms with stairs and a gigantic video screen looming over it all…It’s like a full-blown widescreen movie theatre screen. We’ve all filmed video to go with our songs. Should be pretty cool. Mine will be pretty creepy…I do play Uncle Ernie, the pedophile, after all.

It was a looonnnng day….6 1/2 hours of rehearsal. But we got it all set, I think. Three more rehearsals til we open. This is probably all you’ll hear about til Friday morning, it’s kind of all-consuming.

I’ll try to think of something else to talk about, though!

This coming Friday’s post should be good…if you google “Chantix”, you’ll get an idea…

Saturday catch up post #2 SCARY STORY (It’s true, too!)

October 7, 2006 · 7 Comments

SPO has a Halloween meme on his blog, and post about ghosts. I am inspired to tell a true scary story:

About 15 years ago, in Sacramento, Ca, my best girlfriend and I lived in the same apartment complex, right across from one another. One night she was entertaining some dude, and I popped over for a visit. Somehow, the three of us got on a discussion of ghost stories and creepy stuff. He began telling us about something in the movie 3 Men and a Baby…he said that there was a scene where the camera follows Ted Danson as he is walking across set, and in the background, you can see the figure of a small boy right in the background, dressed in old-time clothing, staring right into the camera. The story goes that the scene for the movie had been filmed in an upstairs room of a house where a father had murdered his young son, and then killed himself. ALSO, the story went, if you look closely, you can see what appears to be the ghostly image of a shotgun mysteriously balanced on the bedpost.

“I have a copy of that movie!” I cried, and so the three of us trooped across the hall to check out video and see if we could find this creepy scene.

I found the videotape, popped it into my old, top-loading VCR. Here’s where the weirdness began, and, as far as I know, never ended…

As soon as I hit “play”, Anne’s date said “This is the scene!” My tape just happened to be right at the scene we were looking for. Kind of weird, but anyway…the scene began, Ted Danson walks across the set and…there in the background…was the little boy in old-timey clothing staring with dead eyes, straight into the camera.

All three of us screamed.

And the tape popped out of the VCR. We screamed again. Then laughed. Anne said that it was the scariest thing she’d ever seen. “Let’s watch it again!” Anne didn’t want to, she was really weirded out, but I popped the tape back into the VCR, rewound for a few seconds and there, again, was what appeared to be a dead child, staring right into the camera. Hadn’t the actors seen this? The director, the camera operator? We screamed again, and this time the tape not only popped OUT of the VCR, but it shut off!

All three of us were kind of freaked out. But here’s where things got really strange…

That night, as I slept, a pounding began. This pounding began in the living room and I thought it was someone knocking on the door…with three baseball bats.

There was no one at the door.

Then the pounding began on my bedroom walls. One side, then the other. Then in the kitchen.

Now, when I say pounding, I mean a sound like nothing else I have ever heard; a real BANG! BANG! BANG!. Loud enough to wake me from my sleep. And all of my neighbors, too.

The pounding continued as the days went on, moving around the apartment. One neighbor came over, to ask why I was pounding on the wall…I told her I wasn’t. As she was standing in my doorway berating me, the pounding began again. Her eyes got real big, and she apologized for accusing me. She told me she’d been hearing the sound of a child crying, unexplained.

One night, the pounding woke me up at 3 am, and I got really pissed off and began screaming and cursing at it. “Shut, UP, shut UP, SHUT UP!”
As I stood on my bed, furious, I felt a presence so disturbing that I had to get dressed and leave the apartment. I went to stay with my boyfriend, it was really scary.

The neighbors continued to complain, and threatening notes began appearing on my door and a phone call came from the property mangagement company.

One afternoon Anne showed up with a Ouija board. We put out hands on the board and began moving the slider around. Anne suddenly let go of it and looked at me strangely…”Did you spell that?” I didn’t know what she was talking about, and asked her what had been spelled. “You did that on purpose…you spelled ‘I want to molest you’”. I hadn’t, and told her so. She really appeared to be quite disturbed.

I moved out.

Months later, I was visiting Anne and as we sat talking in her apartment, we could hear, coming from my old apartment across the hall, BANG! BANG! BANG!

Catch-up Saturday post #1

October 7, 2006 · 1 Comment

Been a busy week! The aids service organization I manage moved to a new location, lock, stock and barrel. Movers had been hired to move the really large freezers and heavy equipment, but when they showed up (2 skinny little Hispanic guys), they took a look at what we wanted them to move and said, “um…..NO!” And they left. That meant we had to move everything ourselves. Luckily, there were several big bears there and we mangaged to wrestle everything into our big truck and get it all moved.

Then we moved everything else. I’ve spent the week setting up the place and cleaning out the old one. Took a load of garbage to the dump, 1500 lbs worth.

Then, after work, I’ve been heading right to rehearsal for TOMMY. I’m ready for it to open, already…that happens this Thursday. It’s going to be a really good show, I just don’t have much to do in it. Tomorrow is an all-day tech rehearsal…I’ll bring a book.

I don’t mean to sound whiny, everything is going well.

Likes and Dislikes (today)

October 2, 2006 · 7 Comments

Things I like today:
The new Scissor Sisters album, Ta-Dah! It’s sen-fricking-sational, no sophomore album issues here! Just great fun.

The new season of Desperate Housewives, so far so good!

My awesome fuckbuddy, Michael. He makes me feel so great in so many ways…

Bear411.com

The fact that today was Glenna Sheperd’s last day at MCC Portland.

My new headshots - which one do you like?

Things I dislike today:

The new season of Survivor, so far…not so good. No hot men to root for.

Most of the people in this production of TOMMY that I’m in…I like their talent, but mostly not the personalities. BIIIG egos, little cliques and I’m odd man out, as though I really were perveted Uncle Ernie.

My belly.

That I’m probably going to get hit with some overdraft fees in the morning…cut things a little close this month.

Well, at least the likes outnumber the dislikes! I’m a pretty happy guy, in general.
