Act One

July 19, 2008 · 6 Comments

I miss my blog! I miss boring everyone with the tiresome tales of my tedious life!  So I’m back!  (yawn)

I’m no David Mamet, and certainly no Tennessee Williams, but I have finished a first draft of Act One of the play I’m writing. It makes me really happy that I’ve done it…and that I like it.  I’m anxious to dig in to Act Two.

I do get irritated with myself that I won’t just sit and write more often.  It always proves to be so fruitful when I do…why can’t I just remember that, and plant my ass and work?  I guess it’s because it’s such a solitary endeavor.  I get to wondering who is online, who might want to go to a movie…it’s lonesome work, writing.  And, just in general terms of my life, I find it hard to make myself do anything that I don’t really want to do, if I don’t have to do it.

Anyway, things have been fine.  Work (at my day job) is good, if challenging. People can be amazingly fussy about theater seating.  We have some great operas coming up, at least I hear they are great. I’m looking forward to experiencing them: La Traviata, Rigoletto, The Turn of the Screw, Fidelo.  And some very cool Broadway tours coming through.  It’s all selling very well.

What else?  I was very happy to hear that Jesse Helms died, may he rot in hell.  Not very nice of me, eh?  Well, neither was he.  Stupid waste of skin and oxygen.  Good riddance.

I’m looking forward to Obama and McCain debating.  I guess they won’t start that til after they are offically nominated.  Should be exciting to watch.

I’m thinking about getting some Bears together for a white-water rafting trip, like we did 2 years ago.  Wow…I blogged about that last trip…that means my blog has had a few anniversaries.

This is a meme that was on Urspo’s blog, I’m going to fill it out.  Haven’t done one of those in a while.  Here goes:

What did you want to be when you ‘grew up?’

An actor.  A writer.  And I do both.

What are you now?

A Ticketing Professional.

What fictional character did you identify with as a child?

Carrie.  Yes, Stephen King’s Carrie.  Go ahead, analyze that!

How about now?

Jack Torrence, from The Shining.  Nah, I don’t know.  No one quite like me to identify with.

What is your ‘Gay Pride’ Song?

“I Am What I Am”. Yes, I know…very cliche…but still.  Those lyrics resonate deeply. “I am my own special creation…so come take a look, give me the hook or the ovation.”

What is your drag song (we ALL have one)?

“And I Am Tellin’ You I’m Not Goin’” -  Jennifer Holliday or Jennifer Hudson.

Earliest memory?

Being a baby, still unspeaking, carried in my mom’s arms, looking at tables piled with fabric in a store.

Memory you’d like to forget?

My father telling me that he wished I wasn’t part of the family, and how he wished they could leave me behind when we were all getting ready to move to Fresno.  I was 10.

If you ran for a seat in political office, what would be your platform(s)?

Enforcing separation of church and state.

Winehouse. Want her to succeed or are you over her?

I like the “Rehab” song, but that’s about it.  I wish everyone, including Amy, well.

The first person you thought you loved?

This girl down the block. Not sure why. It was romantic, not sexual.

The first person you actually loved?

Rick.

The person you love now?

I really only love my mom.  And several of my friends. I still love my ex, Jud. Not Rick, not anymore.

If you could be, do, have, own, or possess anything you wanted, what would it be?

A Pulitzer-prize winning playwright, who could put out a riveting, successful (artistically and financially) play every Broadway season.

Even if you are in love with someone right now, who are you/could be crushing on right now?

I have a huge Crush on Shawn, I always will. I have a crush on Urspo, too, because he is so sweet and smart and handsome and kind and all kinds of other good things.

And my own bonus add-on question;

Have you kissed a skunk?

Um, no.  But I have been attacked by raccoons.  Had to get rabies shots.  Very painful.

OK, so I’m back.  It was a short break.  I think writing here on a regular basis is good for me, whether I have much to say or not.  I’ll try and be more creative about my posts.

XOXOXO
